Space Renovation of Shanghai YuTu Technology
The Shanghai YuTu Technology is located in Shanghai’s west Hongqiao area, in the Beidou industrial technology park. It is the solitary office building’s top-floor area. The original architectural pattern is that of a classic gallery office; the floor height is around 5m-6m, and traditional vertical bar windows are applied to the four surrounding walls. The client intends to create an intriguing office environment with openness, transparency, and a sense of the times and the future, in addition to improving physical properties such as lighting and ventilation.
Horizontal Spatial Integration At The Shanghai YuTu Technology
According to the preliminary concept, the entire south-facing exterior wall of this floor will be transformed into an all-floor glass curtain wall window, considerably improving indoor day-lighting and ventilation. The indoor renovation concept begins with horizontal spatial integration and vertical spatial growth, and the design reorganises the horizontal cross-shaped public transit space, as well as dividing the area between open office and independent office.
Achieving A Strong Design And Structure
Two separate spatial experiences in two different divided horizontal and vertical spaces may be obtained by sorting out the functions, and the spaces are realised by a gigantic cross type form with a sense of woodiness, and all transit routes are planned in keeping with this cross type form.
This cross is located in the vertical space and clearly conveys the space’s usage logic while concealing the structure, with the ultimate goal of achieving a strong unity and harmony between the material experience and spiritual emotion of the space. It also introduces a spiritual logo and totem to this space that celebrates technology and creation.
Vertical grille is employed in the design to increase the transparency of the wall in order to minimise the impression of closure created by the enormous wooden cross and to bring some vibrancy and intrigue to the area. Through the interspace of the glass curtain wall on the south side, light is diffused into the public hallway.
