How The Haohan Qiao Bridge Is Redefining Adventure

Are you a thrill seeker? Do heights send butterflies through your stomach? Does it pump up the adrenaline in your body? Then the Haohan Qiao Bridge is the place for you. This is the world’s longest glass bottomed bridge. This incredible glass suspension bridge is one of the world’s longest at approximately 1,000 feet, so whatever you do, just don’t look down! Located in Beijing, It also happens to be the second-most populous metropolis and offers a diverse range of cultural events.

Beijing is one of the world’s most popular tourist attractions. The creators are just as sure that if tourists were to even jump on the bridge, it would remain just as firm. The steel frame used to support and encase the glass bridge is also very strong and densely built, so even if a glass is broken, travellers won’t fall through.

Architecture And Design Of The Bridge

Visitors cross the world's highest and longest glass-bottomed bridge above a valley in Zhangjiajie in China's Hunan province the day after its Aug. 20 opening.

Each panel is 24 millimeters thick and 25 times stronger than regular glass. Before a team of a 11 engineers went to work on the bridge, Haohan Qiao was made of wood, with only a small section that was made of glass as an experiment. Even it’s name does complete justice to it: Haohan Qiao literally translates to “brave men” so you have to live up to it for crossing the bridge!

The construction in China’s Hunan province, which is open to the public for a while now, is 980 feet long and hangs between two high cliffs. Walkers are treated to clear, stomach-churning views of the ground under them. You won’t want to look down if you’re bold enough to cross it.

Experience Offered For The Travellers On Board

It’s a bit important to put into context as to exactly how tall this bridge is. The bridge spans 1,410 feet, is 20 feet wide, and is about 1,000 feet above the ground. The marketing executive of the bridge estimated an incredible 8000 people visiting the site everyday. It can accommodate almost 600 people at once on the bridge and is a sight to behold.
