Marina Bay Sands- Redefining Luxury At It’s Best

The Marina Bay Sands is a 40 acre integrated resort, combining the best facilities that your money could buy.  Three 56-storey hotel towers holding more than 2,600 rooms in total; a 2.5-acre sky park surrounding the towers, is a sight to behold. The building design was majorly inspired by a house of cards; where two cards are placed vertically and tilted at a slight angle, which is then covered with another card on top. This created a slight bend on the cards at the base and completes the set. This whole concept was majorly developed in transforming into the genius that it is today.

Marina Bay Sands combines more than 1.3 million square feet of world-class convention; offers a 360-degree view of Singapore and the sea along with outdoor amenities for the hotel including swimming pools, restaurants and gardens; two state-of-the-art theatres with 4,000 seats; a casino; the iconic Sands Museum on the promontory; a wide array of shopping and dining outlets and an outdoor event plaza along the promenade that can accommodate up to 10,000 people

The Sands SkyPark is located on the 57th floor of Marina Bay Sands. The facility, which spans 12,000 square metres and can house at least four A380 planes side by side, includes restaurants, bars, 250 trees, the Sands SkyPark Observation Deck, which provides 360-degree views of the city skyline, and the 150-meter-long Sands SkyPark Waterfall.

Hidden mechanics are at work when you’re relaxing in the pool. Strong winds from the waters could potentially force the towers to shake. Four movement joints, located directly beneath the main swimming pools, are designed to withstand the natural movement of the towers, keeping the buildings stable.

Architect Moshe Safdie On His Creation

“The towers first open up at the base to form an atrium, and because the site is triangular, or at least wedge-shaped, one opens more, the next less, and the last even less, creating a dynamic of changing geometry,” Safdie added. He also explained the predicament of creating a swimming pool since it’s positioning was difficult and creating one at such tremendous heights was quite the task. That’s when the idea of SkyPark was launched and solved this issue at hand.
