The beautiful Agra Fort is one of India’s most impressive and fascinating structures constructed during the Mughal era. This 94-acre structure is located along the banks of the Yamuna River in Agra, roughly 3 kilometres from the world-famous Taj Mahal. Agra Fort: Architecture
The sumptuous Agra Fort is built of red sandstone and marble and is designed in the Mughal style. From above, the fort appears to be in the shape of a semicircle and is surrounded by strong red sandstone double battlemented walls. This fort contains amazing chambers, gorgeous mosques, and lovely halls. Public and private halls known as Diwan-i-Am and Diwan-i-Khas, royal pavilions that contain a masjid, royal baths constructed of marble and a mirror palace known as Sheesh Mahal, and courtrooms are among the fort’s prominent features and monuments.
Things To See Inside The Fort
The fort consists of several halls, palaces and other monuments built at different points of time. The major things to see in Agra Fort include the Jahangir Mahal, the red sandstone palace built for Jahangir by his father Akbar; the Nagina Masjid, a mosque built for the ladies. It is said that below the mosque was the Mina Bazaar, where the epic romance between Jahangir and Nurjahan blossomed and the Akbari Mahal, the palace where Akbar spent the last years of his life.
The state of Uttar Pradesh hosts a nightly light and sound performance at the fort. The Agra Fort’s light and sound performance takes you on a visual trip through the fort’s historic past.
